A hybrid session for the Fragility Forum Partnership Day

Shifting power to local actors has been a top policy priority in the international aid sector, alongside attempts to break down silos between humanitarian, development and peace efforts in fragile settings. But efforts to ‘localise’ are rarely joined up with efforts to connect across the humanitarian-development-peace nexus.  Some have argued that these internationally-led reforms continue to place donors and international agencies at the centre, instead of governments and local civil society.  Others suggest that locally led, HDP nexus work is impossible in complex risk environments.

Join ALNAP and IFRC in this hybrid session as part of the World Bank Group’s Fragility Forum Partnership Day, as we explore and challenge these assumptions by learning from leaders outside the internationally-led aid system on how to support locally led development, peace and humanitarian work.  We will hear from the perspectives of government, national civil society and the Red Cross/Crescent movement on what is working in terms of local leadership across the H-D-P nexus in complex risk environments and where more effort is required.  We will also share insights from the philanthropic sector, where efforts to support local leaders are potentially making faster pace, unencumbered by long-standing bureaucratic silos.
