Community Engagement Research – Uganda Case Study

This case study documents two multisectoral projects that Action Against Hunger are running in Uganda. The first is the Uganda Nutrition and Resilience Project (UNREP) and the second is the Multisectoral Humanitarian Response (MHR). Community engagement is central to the implementation and monitoring phases of Action Against Hunger’s projects, but there is less community engagement in needs assessment, planning or evaluation.

This research found that establishing strong relationships with both elected officials and communities was a key enabler of community engagement. Barriers included lack of access within settlements (at night or during bad weather), challenges accessing some methods of communication, and the level of compensation provided to volunteers in comparison with other organisations.
