In carrying out its mandate, WFP processes a large amount of information, including personal data of its beneficiaries and prospective beneficiaries. Protecting this information is a fundamental part of WFP’s duty of care to those it serves. Breaches in confidentiality could have dire consequences for individual beneficiaries or beneficiary communities, ranging from abuse and ostracization to death. These Guidelines have been developed for all WFP personnel involved in the processing of data concerning actual or potential beneficiaries. They cover data protection principles and the application of those principles. They also provide instructions on how to conduct a Privacy Impact Assessment, and include tools for use at HQ and in the field.
