Recognizing the complexity of using data science tools in a humanitarian context, DSEG has created a toolkit with a Framework, Decision Tree and Templates. We invite DSEG members and interested actors to suggest new tools we can create and add to the toolkit.
As artificial intelligence and advanced data science methods increasingly enter humanitarian projects, anticipating their ethical impacts has become essential. The AI Ethics Toolkit from the Data Science and Ethics Group (DSEG) supports sector actors in navigating this challenge.
Structured around three complementary pillars – an ethical framework, an interactive decision tree, and a practical toolkit – it helps identify and mitigate risks related to algorithmic bias, transparency, and data governance. It is designed for both data scientists and programme coordinators, promoting a collaborative, human-rights-centred approach. Its participatory dimension encourages users to contribute to the resource, share experiences, and build a learning community around data ethics.
