Large earthquakes can cause widespread loss of life, disrupt essential services and damage critical infrastructure. While earthquakes cannot be prevented, we can prepare and learn from past experiences to strengthen response and support recovery.

Find ALNAP's essential lessons from previous earthquake responses (in Spanish), covering debris management, shelter, health, livelihoods and economic recovery, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), education, food security, nutrition and protection here.

This recent Inter-agency humanitarian evaluation of the response to the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria further assesses the collective response of IASC members.
