The ALNAP Review of Humanitarian Action series aims to advance understanding and practice as a means of supporting improvement in the performance of humanitarian action. Firstly, it provides an overview of current trends in humanitarian action through a synthesis of evaluation findings. Secondly, the ALNAP meta- evaluation assesses the strengths and weaknesses of evaluation practice and aims to improve its quality through interaction and dialogue with agencies. Thirdly, the Review also provides a critical reflection on an area of particular concern: based on a sample of interviews with humanitarian field workers, this year's themed chapter on field level learning provides a review of current practice in the field, and explores ways in which learning can be encouraged through simple, workable changes to agencies' practice.
