Assessing Income Generating Activities in Zare and Kishindih

To extend its impact and mitigate food insecurity in the remote areas of Northern Afghanistan, the People in Need (PIN) Mazar-e-Sharif office will increase food availability and accessibility in Balkh province through 1) direct support to both individual producers and SMEs; 2) a contribution to the improvement of local infrastructure; 3) capacity building of local authorities. In these different regards, the PIN project aims to enhance income generating opportunities in two districts: Zara and Kishindih (Balkh province), through training, knowledge sharing and joint business strategies. To this aim, PIN commissioned Samuel Hall Consulting to conduct a market research in the districts of Zara and Kishindih. The assessment consisted of:

  • an assessment of the two target districts and development of sustainable income generation activities to bring the most benefit to the target beneficiaries;
  • a practical implementation plan including set up of sector associations of beneficiaries and market access strategies.
