Within days of the January 12th earthquake in Haiti, the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and the Ministry of Public Works began discussing plans for a large-scale project to evaluate every building affected by the disaster. The project designer recognised the need for technical support in communication. From the start communication work focused on community mobilisers, tasked with house-to-house visits to explain the project and pave the way for technical assessments by engineers. This paper describes the communication in more detail.
