As part of the Prevention Project, the Guatemalan Red Cross and the Municipality of Guatemala City signed an agreement to develop a risk prevention and mitigation programme in four impoverished communities in the city, which include Nuestra Señora del Carmen, Anexo Forestal Zona 13, Asentamiento 4 de Febrero, and Puerta del Jardín Zona 18. This is the first time an agreement has been signed between the Municipality and the Guatemalan Red Cross. Also, as part of the project, the Municipality offered matching funds for micro projects. These four communities have socio- natural and socio-urban risks. None of them are receiving attention from the central government. The Red Cross made the commitment to work with these communities to improve disaster preparedness. This document contains a presentation of each community served by the Red Cross.
