Case study: Implementation of cash-based projects in Aleppo governorate
Despite growing inflation, markets in Aleppo governorate continued to function after the onset of the armed conflict, even if it was at a much slower pace than before the conflict. Due to the high cost of basic commodities, households with limited income opportunities were not able to meet their basic needs and had to mostly rely on humanitarian assistance (mainly distributions). Hence, Solidarités International decided to implement a Cash Transfer Programme to help the most vulnerable households, including both IDPs and host households, to access food and meet their basic needs. It was commonly decided to operate mainly through Cash For Work (CFW). However, for the families without anyone in a condition to work Unconditional Cash Grants were completely accepted as an option.
This case study reviews SI's Cash Transfer Programme and identifies challenges as well as lessons learned from the activities carried out.
