Cash Transfers, Gender and Generational Relations: Evidence from a Pilot Project in Lesotho

In September and October 2007, ODI contributed to an

assessment of the feasibility of a cash transfer project and the

design of the project (Levine, 2007; Bailey, 2007). As part of a

second phase of collaboration between World Vision and ODI

around the wider issue of World Vision’s global engagement

with cash transfer programming, ODI has conducted action

research focussing on the particular issue of gender in relation

to the Lesotho pilot.

This report analyses findings from field research in Maseru and Mohale’s Hoek districts in Lesotho. The objective of the research was to explore the gender issues emerging from the implementation of cash transfer programmes.
