This manual is divided into 3 chapters; Chapter 1: Why conduct impact monitoring? Chapter 2: How to implement impact monitoring Chapter 3: Data handling / analysis The first chapter (of which this is a part) represents the explanation of the conceptual understanding and rationale for 'why' impact monitoring should be carried out. It also presents the analytical categories (livelihoods and safety) for data collection and processing. The second chapter provides guidance in the practical implementation of impact monitoring, where simple training lessons and explanatory guidelines are explained; e.g. how to conduct interviews, how to fill in the questionnaire etc. The third chapter explains how data should be extracted from the database along with the summaries from meetings with key informants and focus groups, and how this data can be used to evaluate the situation, in reporting and as a programme management tool.
