DRC's Age, Gender & Diversity Vision and Standards - 2010

Age, gender and diversity matter. Gender roles differ across cultures, and change across age and over time. Women, girls, boys, and men bring different issues to the table. They have different needs, strengths and capacities and so do different ethnic groups, groups of different socio-economic and legal status. Conflict and displacement affect individuals and groups of different ages, gender and backgrounds differently and it affects the relationships between them and the realisation of their rights. Moreover, women, girls, boys and men do experience violence, conflict, and displacement differently and hence respond to their changed situation in different ways. DRC is committed to incorporate age, gender and diversity concerns and aspects in its operations because DRC believes this will enable and enhance DRC's ability to reach out to conflict- and displacement-affected populations more effectively, to do more relevant and appropriate targeting, and eventually to better serve the communities we work with and for.
