Exchange as a Tool for Science-Humanitarian Dialogue

Learning from a Series of Pilot Exchanges between Climate Scientists and Humanitarian Policy Makers

Exchange as a tool for science humanitarian dialogue png

Drawing on new learning created through a series of pilot exchanges between climate scientists and humanitarian policy makers undertaken from March to June 2009, this briefing note is intended for humanitarian policy makers, scientists engaged in disciplines which impact on future vulnerability and those seeking to strengthen science-policy dialogue. The Humanitarian Futures Programme (HFP) believes that effective engagement between scientists and humanitarian policy makers is essential for ensuring that emerging threats and possible solutions identified in scientific research are incorporated into humanitarian planning and, in turn, that humanitarian concerns inform the focus of scientific research. The programme’s Futures Group seeks to build understanding of how humanitarian organisations deal with scientific uncertainty and is developing a series of tools to support their capacity to take on evolving scientific learning.
