Action Contre la Faim (ACF) started an integrated Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH) and Nutrition project in the Tando Muhammad Khan and Badin district in Sindh Province in June 2013. ACF selected with 60 villages (30 for Tando Muhammad Khan and 30 for Badin) in five Union Councils (UCs) and targeted a total of 45,759 beneficiaries. Additional 42 villages have been covered at a later stage of the project with water filters. WASH activities included a soft component of Hygiene Promotion (HP) implemented with the PHAST (Participatory Hygiene And Sanitation Transformation) and a construction component. In additional 15 villages a Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) component has been implemented. An innovative feature of this project is the sanitation marketing component which allows vulnerable families to purchase an Easy Latrine for their homes. ACF established also Village Project Committees (VPC) to enhance community mobilization and participation. In November 2014 a final evaluation has been carried out to specifically measure the WASH component of this intervention and its integration with the nutrition and food security/livelihood components.
