This is an evaluation report of the project entitled 'Integrated Community Response to Improve the Health and Nutritional Status of HIV/AIDS Affected Households' implemented by Children in Distress (CINDI) in Kitwe. The report presents the findings, conclusions and recommendations following an evaluation exercise that took place in August 2010. The evaluation aimed to determine the successes and challenges of the project, and to document key lessons learned for the planning of future activities.
The project has been implemented in 11 communities of Kitwe and has had three key objectives: 1. Enable community members to play a central role in the identification and addressing of needs at community level through the creation of 11 Community Based Organisations 2. Improve access to essential health services for people living with HIV/AIDS 3. Strengthen household food security/nutritional status of those living with, and caring for, people with HIV/AIDS.
In order to establish whether CINDI has achieved these objectives and is making any impact at community level, the evaluation focused on assessing each of these objectives and made conclusions and recommendations focusing on impact, coverage, effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability of the project.
