Gender-based Violence Against Children and Youth with Disabilities: A Toolkit for Child Protection Actors

Gbv against children and youth with disabilities toolkit png

This participatory toolkit for child protection, GBV prevention and response, and youth engagement was designed for humanitarian and development staff to:

  • develop their capacity for disability inclusion
  • identify gender-based violence prevention and response needs among children and youth with disabilities
  • involve these young people in planning and implementing activities

Young people with disabilities have much to contribute to programming, but are rarely invited to contribute their insights, knowledge, skills and capacities.

Children and youth with disabilities are frequently hidden in communities, overlooked by humanitarian programs, and excluded from school and other opportunities. Adolescents with disabilities, particularly those with intellectual disabilities, are often excluded from peer networks that might protect them as well as activities that increase their knowledge about violence, sex, and healthy relationships.
