Growing Stress on Jordan

Contingencyplanningmemo update satloff schenker png

Given the spillover threat posed to Jordan by the Syrian conflict, this memo discusses how the US should try to prevent this possibility. The text's authors specifically recommend that Washington should 1) increase humanitarian assistance to Jordan; 2) promote greater employment opportunities for Syrian refugees; 3) increase its defense and intelligence cooperation with Amman; and 4) establish a "safe-zone" where US-led coalition forces could provide security for the feeding and sheltering of internally displaced Syrians.
