Since its creation in 2011, the Humanitarian Innovation Fund, part of ELRHA, has become established as a pioneer and leader in the young and evolving field of humanitarian innovation. Through an able, engaged project team supported by a well connected and energetic Board and Grants Panel, it efficiently administers grants for potential innovations that would not otherwise be piloted. The three years of HIF’s existence have seen considerable change in the landscape of humanitarian innovation. Where it was once a pioneer, the growth in innovation actors has been rapid and the market for ideas has become healthily competitive. Funding for innovation still remains scarce though, and HIF’s key achievement is as a funding source for such projects.
