Independent Final Project Evaluation
This independent final project evaluation was carried out in Nigeria between 12/08/2016 – 30/09/2016, and was funded by OFDA. Some specific objectives of the project includes: Prevent disease outbreaks; Increase access to water and sanitation for the victims of complex emergencies, and; Reduce malnutrition and promote optimal growth of children aged 0-59 months in Jere and Maiduguri Metropolitan Council local government area of Borno state through the promotion of proper breastfeeding and complimentary feeding practices. The project was implemented within the sectors Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH), Nutrition, Shelter, and Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL). Some recommendations include:
- Develop indicators tailored to the context and to the operation besides the OFDA list, which are SMART and relevant to monitor the achievements during the implementation.
- The accountability of beneficiary targeting strategies will benefit from the elaboration of a short, clear and easily understandable list of criteria. The vulnerability scoring system, although suitable, should comprise of harmonized, evidence based indicators of extreme vulnerability, fully understood and accepted by the community and local stakeholders.
- As per recommendation arisen from interviews, ensure a broader inclusion and involvement of governmental stakeholders in the handover of WaSH facilities. As part of the exit/hand over strategy, identify through an end line assessment an appropriate health and environmental solution for the disposal of sanitation facilities, aiming to minimize contamination risks.
