Humanitarian NGOs: Challenges and Trends

Non-governmental organisations have become a crucial pillar of the international humanitarian architecture. The NGO landscape is dominated by a handful of ‘giants’ in the US and Europe. These agencies account for the lion’s share of aid resources, and set the terms of debate for the rest of the community. In the altered international environment following 11 September, competition for funding, philosophical disputes and cultural differences are set to become still more pronounced.
