The frequency of countrywide hartal and blockades in Bangladesh accompanied by political violence mounted in November 2013, and continued until the middle of January 2014. There were formal and informal reports on the impact of hartal and blockades on the national economy and people. The situation prompted the Food Security Cluster (FSC) to conduct a rapid assessment to understand the impact of hartal and blockades on food security situation and livelihoods of vulnerable poor in urban and rural areas, and to understand the changes in food prices and supply chains in selected markets.
