Typhoon Damrey hit Vietnam and flooded homes, towns and cities across 15 of the country’s central provinces on November 4, 2017. More than 100 people died and 4.3 million were affected as the storm devastated their homes, water infrastructure, food sources and livelihoods. In the early aftermath, at least 400,000 people were in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. The typhoon’s severity was compounded because households and infrastructure had been made vulnerable by five storms that had hit the provinces earlier in the year.
