INTRODUCTION TO JAMS
UNHCR and WFP are engaged in a strong partnership to ensure that the food security and nutrition needs of refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees are met. For an effective and comprehensive response to refugee crisis and conflict-related internal displacement, joint UNHCR/WFP needs assessment is crucial.
The JAM is a process comprised of a series of jointly implemented activities. Key JAM activities include planning, secondary data collection and review, primary data collection through in-depth assessments and field visits (missions), analysis of data and development of recommendations, reporting, and the development of a Joint Plan of Action (JPA). The JAM process may take up to six months and requires timely forward planning in order to be successful. The outputs of the JAM process contribute not only to improved programme design and impact but facilitate resource mobilisation and help to ensure effective use of resources to the benefit of refugees and their surrounding communities.
