The objectives of the workshop were to: 1. to review the impact of Mekong floods in 2000 on health and health services in countries of the Mekong Basin; 2. to review the specific health-related interventions that were undertaken by each country and identify problems encountered; 3. to recommend solutions to these problems to ensure more effective public health interventions for future floods in the Mekong Basin, and 4. to establish mechanisms to promote intra-agency, interagency and inter country coordination and collaboration in implementing public health interventions for health emergency management in the Mekong Basin.
