MSF provides technical support and medical supplies to Syrian medics running field hospitals and clinics in the governorates of Aleppo, Dara’a, Rural Damascus, Hama, Homs, Idlib, Lattakia and Tartus. While MSF believes that it should be running major projects in Syria, the scale of the violence and the fast moving nature of the conflict mean that the work it can currently carry out inside Syria is limited. Increased and direct hands-on assistance will only be viable when the many warring parties in Syria show the political willingness to allow and respect independent humanitarian action. So far, this willingness has not been forthcoming, resulting in intolerable levels of suffering for Syrian people who have minimal access to medical and humanitarian assistance. Jordan provides a high quality and safe environment for providing medical care to war-wounded Syrians, which is unavailable in war-torn areas of southern Syria.
