Evaluations and Lessons Learned

Livestock Emergency Guidelines and Standards (LEGS) Handbook

Legs web version locked png

LEGS is a set of guidelines and standards for the design, implementation and evaluation of livestock responses in emergencies. A companion to the Sphere handbook Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response, LEGS covers a range of technical interventions to support livestock keepers affected by crisis, as well as participatory tools to support assessment, decision making and response identification. Each technical chapter contains standards and key indicators which can be used for review and evaluation, supported by M&E checklists and a Common Standard on monitoring, evaluation and livelihoods impact. Each chapter also contains ‘process’ and ‘impact’ case studies, illustrating real examples of good practice from around the world.

There is also a LEGS Evaluation Tool available, which has been designed to help in assessments of the extent to which a specific project followed LEGS guidance and best practice.
