The National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) was inaugurated on 15th February, 2010 by Chairman, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lt Gen Farooq Ahmad Khan (R). The Government of Pakistan is striving to promote DRM as one of the priority development concerns. There is a growing realization that it would be difficult to achieve the objectives of DRM in the absence of a full-fledged academic institute dedicated for providing research and training services. In this background, NDMA was given the responsibility of establishing the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), which was a statutory requirement under the National Disaster Management Ordinance, 2009.
