The OCHA Data Responsibility Working Group (DRWG) has developed a checklist and key recommendations to guide organizations when humanitarian operations need to scale down or come to an end. This tool is based on the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Operational Guidance on Data Responsibility in Humanitarian Action and aims to support decision-making on whether to retain, publish, transfer, or responsibly dispose of data.

The document "Data Responsibility in Rapid Scale-Down or Closure of Operations" outlines 7 key recommendations, including mapping existing data, assessing its operational relevance and sensitivity, evaluating internal and partner capacity for secure data management, and making informed choices about data retention or sharing. It also highlights the importance of clear communication with affected communities regarding data handling.

This is a living document, designed to evolve as best practices and operational contexts change. Stay tuned for updates and engage with us to ensure responsible data management remains at the core of humanitarian action.
