The purpose of this Policy on the Processing of Biometric Data by the ICRC (“the Policy”) is to ensure that the processing of biometric data by the ICRC takes place in accordance with the principle of “do no harm”, the humanitarian imperative, the ICRC protection mandate and the ICRC Rules on Personal Data Protection (“the Rules”). 1 It also seeks to ensure that those Rules are applied in a manner that takes into account the specific features of biometric data and the opportunities and risks associated with their processing.
