In 2015 ODI conducted research into the effectiveness and impact of actual self-reliance and livelihood interventions. The paper Protracted displacement: Uncertain paths to self-reliance in exile aims to help fill the respective evidence gap, first by drawing a snapshot of global protracted displacement and then by exploring how aid agencies and governments have contributed to sustainable livelihoods among the long-term displaced.

The findings of the paper are drawn from four country case studies, in Sudan/Darfur, Colombia (IDPs), Uganda and Jordan (refugees). This document details the findings of the four case studies.
