A disaster happens when a natural hazard – such as earthquake, flood, drought, cyclone and volcanic eruption – affect a society. UNDP works on building resilient societies that are capable of minimizing damages and swift recovery. This section illustrates UNDP’s experience in: (1) disaster prevention and preparedness; (2) emergency response, recovery and reconstruction; (3) gender equality and empowerment in disasters; and (4) emerging risks such as climate change and urbanization. More than a decade’s experience in disaster risk reduction.
