As a consequence of the Syrian conflict, more than 2.6 million Syrian children are now out of school in Syria and in the neighboring countries of Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt. Nowhere is the challenge of extending access to education graver than in Lebanon: one out of ten people in Lebanon is a child from Syria, and the majority of these children are not in school.
This report identifies key obstacles that keep children from Syria out of school in Lebanon, and outlines opportunities to support the Lebanese Government's efforts to reach more refugee children with education. The report has been written following a field visit to Lebanon and informed by discussions with many individuals in the government and in the international organisations and agencies working on education.
