NCA has implemented humanitarian programmes in Iraq since 1998; through the period of UN-sponsored sanctions, the 2003 occupation and the periods of sectarian conflict and modest recovery leading to 2010. Programmes occurred in the areas of emergency assistance, water and sanitation, youth centres, shelters and reconstruction and capacity building of women’s organisations working in the areas of democratisation and human rights. Geographically, the programme focussed in the Central and Southern Governorates of Iraq. However, some projects were also delivered in the Northern Governorate of Ninewa.
