This report outlines the findings of the affected families' study, which consisted of 802 interviews from 100 villages spread across twelve districts in India, and 604 interviews from 97 villages spread across 9 districts in Sri Lanka. In India, 100 out of 376 affected villages across Tamilnadu were selected for study, with 8 interviews conducted in each survey site. Only families who were impacted by the Tsunami or who had lost a family member were selected for the survey. In Sri Lanka, 604 disaster- affected families in the districts of Colombo, Kaluthara, Matara, Hambantota, Ampara, Batticola, Trincomalee and Jaffna were surveyed. Some were interviewed in temporary relocation facilities. Both quantitative and qualitative methodologies were used in the survey, and all the interviews were conducted in March 2005 by trained, native, bilingual investigators using English and/or the local lan- guages, as appropriate.
