Urban Food Security Series | #20
This AFSUN report presents the results of the first systematic survey of food security at the household level in Maputo using well-tested food security indicators for which it is much easier and less expensive to collect information. The research was conducted as part of the 11 city AFSUN baseline survey in 2008/2009. The first section of the report briefly outlines the survey methodology used. The second section examines the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the surveyed households. The third discusses the prevalence of food insecurity and the fourth looks at the food sourcing strategies of households. The report concludes with an examination of policy responses to the crisis of food insecurity in the city and country.
