This lessons learned brief examines communication, community engagement and accountability (CCEA) efforts six months after the February 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye and northwest Syria.
Drawing on CDAC Network's information ecosystem analysis and operational experience from humanitarian responders, it identifies key lessons to strengthen people-centred recovery and humanitarian coordination. The publication highlights the importance of providing actionable information through trusted channels, addressing barriers to information access, strengthening two-way communication and feedback mechanisms, linking CCEA with national and local coordination systems, monitoring and responding to rumours, ensuring multilingual communication for marginalised groups, integrating communication into cash assistance programmes, and designing inclusive communication strategies that meet the needs of women, refugees, internally displaced people, people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. It concludes with practical recommendations and resources to strengthen accountability to affected people and community engagement in future humanitarian responses.
