The World Bank’s two major funding instruments for refugees are the Global Concessional Financing Facility for middle-income countries and the IDA18 sub-window for refugees and host communities for low-income countries.
The World Bank is also part of the Jordan and Lebanon Compacts as well as the Ethiopia Jobs Compact. Despite the Bank’s presence in many refugee-hosting countries for decades, its involvement in displacement specific issues had traditionally been limited to addressing the consequences of forced displacement. This usually took the form of improving access to services for, and promoting self-reliance of, internally displaced people as well as supporting the reintegration of returnees.3
