During March and April 2012, an assessment was undertaken in refugee camps in Dadaab, North Eastern Kenya, hosting 464,000 registered refugees primarily from Somalia. The objective was to gather information from children and analyze why they were not in school. A total of 1,436 children were interviewed across four camps – Dagahaley, Hagadera, Ifo and Ifo 2 East and West, using a questionnaire consisting mostly of closed multiple-choice questions, but including options for additional unconstrained responses. Data collection, quality control and data entry were all conducted using trained camp residents.
