This publication is a practical compendium of knowledge and inspiration for applying an anti-discrimination approach in humanitarian and support-oriented work, developed within the Polish context. It is designed as a reflective and educational resource for professionals working in the humanitarian sector, non-governmental organizations, and other institutions providing assistance, encouraging critical reflection on everyday practices and their impact on people receiving support.
The publication consists of ten short articles, each addressing a different form of discrimination relevant to humanitarian and aid contexts. Topics include, among others, Islamophobia, racism, anti-Roma discrimination, ableism, sexism, and discrimination against LGBTQ+ people. Each article offers a clear and accessible overview of the issue, grounded in real-world challenges faced in support and relief work. Beyond problem analysis, the texts provide concrete recommendations, practical guidance, and examples of good practices that can help build more inclusive, ethical, and aware approaches to assistance. The proposed solutions operate on both institutional and individual levels, making the publication relevant for organizations as well as for practitioners reflecting on their own roles and responsibilities.
The publication can be used as a starting point for internal discussions, team reflection, and further action within organizations. It also serves as a valuable training and learning resource for teams working with people in crisis situations, supporting the development of more equitable and non-discriminatory humanitarian practices.
