The impacts of climate change and disasters on children and youth in three provinces in Cambodia
This child-led research examines the impacts of climate change and disasters on children and youth in the Cambodian provinces of Kampong Chhnang, Banteay Meanchey, and Kampong Thom. Conducted between June and August 2024 with 98 participants, including children, youth club leaders, teachers, and community representatives, the study documents how extreme heat, drought, and floods disrupt children’s health, education, and their families' livelihoods. It also explores children’s access to information, their motivation to engage in climate action, and the challenges they face in driving change at community level. The findings highlight the importance of inclusive climate education, targeted awareness-raising, and the systematic integration of children and youth participation in climate change adaptation and disaster preparedness efforts.
